Mandy Wong Makes the Well Off Raymond Lam Buy Her Christmas Gift

Yesterday Mandy Wong attended an event for the skincare brand TefuTefu100%, in which she's the spokesperson for, with special guest Raymond Lam. Mandy appeared wearing a low-cut dress, but was protected by Raymond as his he put his arm around her shoulders. Mandy laughed and said she wants Raymond to buy her a Christmas gift: "Because he makes so much money, he'll be happy to spend it. I told my family to vote for him too, hope we'll get awards together." She frankly expressed the Astro award increased her confidence, and disclosed many of the behind-the-scenes voted for her too. She gratefully said: "I've made reservations to celebrate. (You're getting the award for sure?) No, worked so hard, we should party for a night."Raymond laughed and said because Kate Tsui has been constantly asking people to vote for them, he learned the tactic too and will work harder to openly get more votes too.

Mandy Wong's Birthday on Dooms Day, No Friends Wants to Celebrate with Her

Rebecca Zhu and Mandy Wong attended TVB's celebration for the "December Birthdays" employees. Mandy will be turning 30 on December 21st, which is coincidentally Dooms Day. She laughed and said none of her friends are willing to spend the day with her, but she does hope something good will happen before Dooms Day. "This year I'm stepping into a new stage in life, turning 30. I hope I'll get a birthday gift at the anniversary awards and a turning point for myself as I develop further into the second half of my life."

Rebecca said she celebrated her 25th birthday with a group of friends at a karaoke a few days ago, and got several surprises. She got a leopard birthday cake, but didn't get any underwear of that style. She laughed and said she's very "heavy aftertaste". She also exposed she has a pursuer, and when asked what he did for her for her birthday? Rebecca smiled sweetly: "He didn't celebrate my birthday with me, but did give me a very heartwarming and useful gift. I'm very happy." She expressed they are still friends, and she needs more time to get to know him better. Her birthday wish is to make improvements in her acting and gain audience recognition.

Mandy Wong Gave Up Relationship, No Distractions Working Towards Stardom

Some people can give up their career for love, while others believe career is more important than love! TVB young FaDan, Mandy Wong, had her boyfriend's support 5 years ago to participate in Miss Hong Kong and entered the industry from there. Due to her new unfixed work schedule, she and her boyfriend eventually had conflicts and after several attempt recoveries, the relationship had to be "certified".

MANDY: "I believe not many people can remember that I entered the industry through Miss Hong Kong. I remember that time, I didn't have much courage, it was my mother who encouraged me to participate in the contest. I didn't feel strongly about it at all and I was afraid my boyfriend wouldn't like it. However, he was actually very supportive, but I still had a lot of mix feelings while I was running for Miss HK. First, I wasn't someone in the limelight, I just focused on my own training. I was so silly to think, "don't let me win" because if I won, then I would have to give up my relationship. I basically didn't know how the entertainment circle is like. Everyone just has their attention on the popular contestants and I was considered the dark horse. Perhaps because that year they had a lot of dance performances and I had a dance background, so I was able to pick up faster than others and gain more confidence. The moment before the winners were announced, I kept telling myself, please don't say my name, but in the end Kayi Cheung won. I think it was well deserved for her because she has very high EQ.

Starts out Discouraged

After Miss HK ended, I entered the TVB Artistes Training Class, but I started out very discouraged. I saw the three Miss HK winners were dressed so beautiful, doing goodwill activities and gaining experience. It turns out this feeling I had was envy, I really envied them. I started from zero, and I began to think if I had won the title, I could probably get famous faster and my future in this industry will be brighter. Luckily, I quickly adjusted my mentality and soon after, TVB made arrangements for me to join the acting crew and officially start my acting career.

I started working day and night, my schedule wasn't fixed and I had less time to be with my boyfriend. I used to spend the majority of my time with him, but since the filming schedules were unfixed, I couldn't just leave work and go out to play. Slowly, we began having more conflicts and also my family financial issues got worse and worse. Although we tried to rescue the relationship, it eventually didn't work out. I thought to myself, not unless I quit! I felt very contradicting, the relationship was dragging for some time. I knew career and love cannot coexist, so I made a very hard decision, that was to end our 4 year relationship and focus entirely on my career. It is harsh, but I had no other choice!

Would Make Same Decision Even Had to Choose Again

Back to single life, I actually felt like I lost a heavy burden. I could concentrate more on work and didn't have as much to worry about. I didn't have to worry about [my boyfriend] being unhappy because I had a kiss/intimate scene with someone else. There was no longer distractions, I could concentrate more on my character, so even if I had to choose again today, I would have done the same thing, choose career over my relationship without hesitation. I'm not cold-blooded, I just think since I chose to pursue an acting career, I should focus entirely on it. I cannot let other things affect me. I enjoy the sense of accomplishment my work brings me, so I sacrificed my relationship and had absolutely no complaints because a relationship requires engagement by both parties. It is mutual accommodation, and not full of complaints!

In the past few years, I've been very lucky. I was given many good roles where I could really develop on, such as "Aam Chun Mui", "Kwan Yee So" and more recently, "Lai Sui Mui". To the audience, the roles gave off different feelings and seeing everyone discussing about it, whether if its compliments or criticisms, to me, it is all just opinions. This year I've been flattered as the hot favorite for "Most Improved Actress" award. Awards are important to artists because it gives us certainty, of course I hope to get it!

Thankful of Poon Ka Tak for "Aam Chun Mui" Role

Just in a blink of an eye, it has already been 5 years since I've debuted. Counting it all, I've been in many many series. Although I was never the first lead, many producers still treat me really well and give me a lot of opportunities. Just like producer Poon Ka Tak, he is definitely my "Pak Lok" (person identifying her talents) because he was the one who casted me inSuspects in Love, where I gained audience recognition for "Aam Chun Mui". Then it keeps going, like The Hippocratic Crush and Divas in Distress, I had lots of room to develop in both roles. Aside from work, we still meet to catch up. My relationship with him is like mentor and friends. When I encounter a problem I can't resolve, I ask for his advice."

Mandy Wong Keeps Personal Life & Work Separate, Denies Ignoring Bosco Wong

Yesterday Him Law and Mandy Wong attended an event together in Kowloon. When speaking of Him's latest rumor that he asked singer Rainky Wai if she was a virgin? Him denied once again and stressed he has never asked such sensitive question. Rumored girlfriend Tavia Yeung also didn't ask him about it. Regarding to the early 'car incident' with Tavia, Him expressed they have already told the true story at the press conference. When asked why Tavia's vomit didn't get on his pants? He stuttered: "I didn't eat the bowl of noodles yet, but there was a plastic bag! It just wasn't captured in the pictures!"

Mandy reveals she is currently shooting with good friend Myolie Wu's ex-boyfriend Bosco Wong, but denies purposely ignoring him on the set. She said: "There was a scene where I initiated a hug and kiss on him, we discussed together on how we should approach the scene. I keep personal life and work separate."

Mandy Wong: Him Law is 'Boyfriend', Oscar Leung is 'Husband', To 'Breakup' Soon

Him Law has become the new generation Siu Sang, this year he had series broadcasting one after the other, L'Escargot, The Hippocratic Crush, Tiger Cubs and the latest Divas In Distress. He is also currently shooting grand production Triumph in the Skies II. In real life, Him and Tavia Yeung are together, but in series Him has a lot of fate with Mandy Wong. Divas In Distress is Him and Mandy's 5th collaboration. It looks like TVB has really made them into an on-screen couple and are not worried of boring the audience. As for Mandy, her on-screen partner isn't Him, but rather with Oscar Leung instead.

Mandy said: "Perhaps being with Oscar in L'Escargot as Kwan Yee Gor and Kwan Yee So has left a deep impression on audience, and the public sees us as a married couple. However, there is a different feeling with Him Law. Previously in Suspects In Love and Tiger Cubs, we were not passionately in love, it was ambiguous and really had the taste of a pair of lovers. This time in Divas In Distress, it's already our 5th collaboration. Honestly, I was afraid audience would get bored of watching us, but luckily the reactions was really good. I have to thank all the aspects, such as the background English songs, the outcome was really good."

Boyfriend and Husband

Mandy joked Him is her 'boyfriend', while Oscar is her 'husband'. In order to have a refreshing feeling, it is likely they will really have to 'breakup' and 'divorce'. Mandy said: "Actually I debuted around the same time as them and producers often cast us together. In The Hippocratic Crush, I was initially linked with Kenneth Ma, but later developed with Benjamin Yuen, which was also well-received. If I have the opportunity to work with Wayne Lai or Roger Kwok, of course I'll be happy."

Not My Cup of Tea

Asked if she'll develop feelings for Him Law since they always see each other? Mandy said: "Him's not my cup of tea. It's great being friends with him though. We have collaborated many times and have the chemistry. I usually say we're good sisters, but Him says we're good brothers. He takes good care of his partner, but I like the matured types. There is too much sunshine in Him, he gives off a feeling of first love. He's also a little clumsy too, I want someone with the sense of security, a matured guy that can take care of me."

Grateful for Liza Wang's Advices

Him was asked if he had any pressure collaborating with Liza Wang and Gigi Wong in Divas In Distress? He said: "Very happy to collaborate with the two seniors and learn from them. I didn't have to worry about making mistakes. Ah Jeh Liza gave me a lot of advice because we had many scenes together. Ah Jeh's speaks with authority, since she's experienced, her advice is definitely helpful. I personally like to work with seniors, otherwise there won't be as many learning opportunities. Also, they're our support in the series, so I can feel more comfortable."

It was rumored Liza is nicknamed 'Producer Wang', has Him been frightened by her? "No, actually we had a very enjoyable collaboration. Most important is to do your part, be familiar with the script and don't be late. That is a must. When Liza sees you that don't have the right expression, she will speak up. When I become a senior in the future, I will be the same as her. Juniors have to understand what their seniors tell them. When seniors are willing to tell you, that means they value you. As a junior, you have to let people know you can accept opinions and advice." Liza plays Him's mother in the series, but what type of mother is Law Mama in real life? "My mom is very gentle with me and I was very attached to her when I was young. Actually my father and uncle were the strict ones, they discipline with some force. Traditional men from the village are usually like that. In the future when I have children, I will use the same method to teach them. Girls will require some patience to discipline and can't use force because that could leave scars. As for boys, they grow up through tripping and falling. When they make a mistake, they should be punished."

Goal: Most Improved Actor Award

When it comes to achievements in his career, does this mean becoming TV King? Him said: "I'm not considered very experienced. Who doesn't want a rapid rise, but you cannot rush it either. You have to take it slowly. Of course awards are important, but you cannot demand for one. When you shoot a series, it is not guaranteed that you'll get really popular, it's all about the right timing. My current goal is to get the 'Most Improved Actor Award', allowing people to see I'm a promising actor. I'll be happy enough with that award."

We remember Him was a film actor turned TV actor, does he hope to get back into films? He said: "I like both TV and film, they are both opportunities and I want to do well in it. I hope to complete my apprenticeship first before I get back into films and be able to show my improvements on the big screen."

[The rest is about Tavia Yeung. Him says his career is his utmost priority. Even after marriage, his career continues to be his priority. Regarding the news that he needs Tavia to support him, Him says artists must accept all types of news, good or bad, otherwise showbiz isn't for them. He says he's a traditional man, and is financially stabled. He hopes to buy his own home at the end of the year. He also doesn't mind working with Tavia in the future, since she is experienced and someone he can learn from.]

Him Law & Mandy Wong: Bickers Out Love Sparks

Solid Collaboration

From Suspects in Love, L'Escargot, The Hippocratic Crush, Tiger Cubs to Divas In Distress, Mandy Wong and Him Law have already collaborated five times. Without prior consultation, they both expressed they have a familiar feeling mutually. Him Him compared them in Suspects In Love to them today, back then they were still in the stage of school boy and girl: "That time it was our naive period, then each time we collaborated again, we witnessed each others' improvements. I've realized I have quite a bit of fate with Mandy because I'm often playing a bickering pair with her. I can say I know her pretty well, even what she likes and doesn't like to eat, I remember it all." Although they aren't a couple in every series, Him Him thinks he's most comfortable with Mandy as an on-screen couple: "Because I really understand her rhythm, and we're also very good friends in real life. When we play a couple and have intimate scenes, there is no embarrassment between us. This makes our acting a lot more natural."

Grew Up Together

Mandy frankly expressed through her collaborations with Him Him, she's able to see their growth: "From our first series and the many different series we individually participated in, we both accumulated acting experience. Until we collaborated again this time, I can see we have both grew up and matured. Back in Suspects In Love, my relationship was with Him was more direct, but this time our romantic storyline is a lot longer and detailed. Its a refreshing love story." Mandy has scenes opposite of Him Him in many series: "When I first found out we were going to be a couple again, I was a little worried. I feared audience were already bored of watching us, but this time the public's reaction was definitely a surprise. Some viewers left messages, commenting on how their smiles came out from the heart as they watched the developments in our relationship. So, what pleases me the most this time is that we were able to bring out a new and refreshing feeling of love."

No Longer Impulsive

In the series, Chak Yau Sing is a person that is protected [by his mother]. Since his elder sister (Chak Ting Yam) passed away, his mother Ying Hung (Liza Wang) placed all her hopes on him. Him Him said the greatest breakthrough for him in playing Chak Yau Sing was he's no longer impulsive: "My past roles, such as Yu Hok Lai in Tiger Cubs, were all on the impulsive side, but Chak Yau Sing is more restrained because Liza Jeh's role has put a lot of pressure on him since youth. He is also a very contradicting person, often times he wants to be a big man, but on the inside he's still a little boy. To me, the role Chak Yau Sing, was slightly harder to grasp, but at the same time I think its very refreshing."

Takes More Initiatives Than Yau Sing

Chak Yau Sing went from hating Kwai Yee Hei to loving her, but he didn't have the courage to confess his love to her. He would just borrow his authority at work to order her to do things for him, just so he could spend more time with her. Him Him said, in reality, he definitely won't be as passive as Yau Sing: "Perhaps when it comes to love, every individual will display similar qualities as Yau Sing, like for example, if Yee Hei didn't take initiative to tell Yau Sing about her past, then Yau Sing wouldn't ask either. I would have the same thoughts too, but I wouldn't do what Yau Sing did because I understand one of us must take the first step. Especially as the guy, you cannot worry too much, after all I will forever be the one at fault. Haha."

Self-Regulation
Mandy plays Kwai Yee Hei, a renovation worker in training, she grew up with a bunch of men and an aunt Sing Ho (Gigi Wong) with a tomboy personality. Thus, she was raised to have a bold and frank personality as well. Mandy said she had to have self-regulation while shooting the series, "Yee Hei is a character tough on the outside, but soft on the inside. As the area she is most attractive is her interior pure and gentle personality, but she feels inferior about her background and past. When we were shooting, I cannot be too rough because Yau Sing will eventually fall for Yee Hei so I have to convey qualities of strong on the outside, but weak on the inside. This way, people can feel the pitiful love."

Similar to Kwai Yee Hei

Yee Hei likes to graffiti, even if she has to risk the danger of breaking the law, she still won't give up on it. Mandy believed she is similar to Yee Hei as she also does not give up on the things she likes to do, "I also like to focus on the things I like to do, such as acting. Aside from work, my view on love is the same as Yee Hei. Because Yee Hei feels inferior, she retreats from her relationship with Yau Sing. I'm not a courageous person myself and my views on love is similar, I would follow his footsteps, he takes a step, then I take a step."

The Most Touching Scenes
Him thought the most touching scene was when he helped Yee Hei fill out all the prize drawing tickets: "When Yee Hei stood there at the department store, having no idea what to do, Yau Sing comes up and helps her fill out all 60 plus tickets. I think a lot of people would think this was a touching scene too. When we were shooting that scene, I actually did write the three words 'Kwai Yee Hei' on each ticket, my hand got all numb."

Mandy thought the scene where she and Yau Sing were hugging on the busy street was the most touching: "That time, it was my first time shooting on the busy streets. There were people surrounding us from all around, I really had to focus on shooting the scene as if nobody was around. I could only do it when I see only Yau Sing in front of me."

A Word From the Producer

In Divas In Distress, almost everyone has some sort of grudge on the people around them. The two mothers are against one another and even the lovers have resentment. Producer Poon Ka Tak expressed he hoped to convey an important message through this drama: "There are a lot of people in this world, who each have something they aren't satisfied with and they often bring this resentment into life. But they have never thought if they were to put down the resentment, then life would feel a lot more relaxing. Many people say there is a Dooms Day but if it's true, then what are those resentments considered to be? Therefore, I hope viewers will not only enjoy watching the series but also understand this positive message."

Mandy Wong gets injured and bitten all over from a rape scene

Last night, Mandy Wong and Niki Chow were shooting for TVB new series A Good Heart Goes Haywire. In the series, Mandy plays a prostitute, but really sacrificed herself for the role! Dressed in a short skirt and a wig, she was shooting a scene outside of the nightclub, where she gets drugged with chloroform and then gets dragged to the dark alley to be raped. She was eventually rescued by Niki, who plays a policewoman. As the majority of the crew on the set were men, Mandy was worried of exposure and so she had shorts underneath her skirt.

For this rape scene, Mandy got actual injuries all over her and she had to shoot the scene in a dirty alley full of mosquitoes and bugs. When the actor who played the rapist dragged her to the alley and because she was struggling to escape, she got bruises on her thigh after completing the scene. Also, Mandy's whole body was itching from all the mosquito and bug bites.

However, this scene wasn't as annoying as her other slapping scene. In the slapping scene, the director initially said to fake the slap, but the result didn't turn out too good. In the end, Mandy bravely volunteered to get slapped for real. She told her 'rapist' to just slap her for real. Mandy said: "Slapping for real is much more realistic! But my face started swelling up! I need to get some ice on it when I get back." For this prostitute role, Mandy gave everything she got, she said watching many movies was part of her homework: "In the series, I always have to lie and I make up my own slang." As for Niki, she had a scene where she jumps off the bridge, but she's still recovering from a leg injury and had to get a stunts double to do the scene for her.
